Brooklyn is 5 months

Well another month has passed and Miss B is 5 months old now.  She is such a precious part of our family.  She has the sweetest disposition and will generally just go with the flow! I love that about her. She will let anyone hold her and just smiles at everyone.  She is growing like crazy and almost looks bigger every day.  We don't have a check up this month so I don't know her actual stats but I think she weighs around 16ish pounds.  She has the most amazing little dimples.  I just love seeing them when she smiles!

At 5 months:
*she wears size 3 diapers
*she wears mostly size 6 month cloths but still can fit in a few 3 month things
*She nurses every 3 hours during the day and will go one 6-8 hour stretch at night.
*She gets solids a few days a week (when mom remembers).  She has tried bananas, apples, and sweet potatoes and seems to like them all.
*She gets 2 scoops of formula in her bottle of pumped milk before bed at night and that seems to help her sleep a little longer.
*She goes to bed between 7-8 pm then wakes up around 3 am to eat then sleep until around 6 am.  Some days she is up for good at 6 and some days she will go back to sleep until 7-8.
*She now chooses to sleep on her tummy.  I lay her down on her back or side and she always rolls over.
*She still takes 3-4 naps a day but they are all only about 45 mins.
*She still loves her paci but has started sucking her thumb quite a bit so we will see which one wins out as the favorite.
*She started sitting up this month. She is still a little wobbly but can sit up unassisted for minutes at a time.
*She loves playing in the activity bouncer.
*She loves watching her brother and sister and they both love to make her smile!

Homemade Baby Food

We have officially embarked on the adventure of baby food with Brooklyn.  We tried out rice cereal last week and she did alright.  She didn't love it but ate it without any problems.  It is of course always a messy start when learning how to eat and this time was no different.  The second time I gave it to her she realized the fun in blowing raspberries with a full mouth of food.  She would smile so big when she did it.

Here is a fun little time lapse video of Miss B trying out bananas for the first time!  From the smile on her face I think you can tell she definitely enjoyed them!  Trying out new foods is always such a fun adventure!  Can't believe my baby girl is big enough already to be starting solid foods.

I had been thinking this time around about trying to make my own baby food instead of buying it in the pouches.  Those things a sorta expensive and I know its super easy to make it and way cheaper.  So today we stopped by the grocery store and picked up some apples, peaches, sweet potatoes, squash and green beans.  While the kids were napping I made all but the green beans!  It was so simple, I don't know why I didn't do this with the other kids.  All I did was peel the food, steam it in my veggie steamer, and then puree it in my little food processor!  Doesn't get much easier than that!  I then put it into ice cube trays and put it in the freezer.  Once its frozen I will put it into ziplock bags and then I can just pull a cube out and thaw it whenever I need it!  It only took me about an hour and a half to do all of it and what took the most time was steaming each thing until it was soft enough to puree!  I did have a cute little helper too part of the time! :D

Extra-Curriculars

Well now that we are all settled in Texas I thought it was time to sign the kids up for some fun things.

Addy is really into dancing these days and dances all around the living room.  So I signed her up for a  little tap and ballet class at the studio right by our house.  My mom, grandma and I took her to the same dance store that I got all of my dance stuff growing up and bought her her first pair of ballet and tap shoes.  I can't wait to see how she does at her first class.  She is super social these days and makes friends wherever she goes so I thinks he will do great!

Maddox decided after doing two rounds of soccer that he wanted to try baseball.  I told him when we moved here that we would have to wait for fall ball because its just too hot to play summer ball.  Well as it turns out signups for fall ball happen pretty early.  All the teams around us closed in late July and are now on a wait list.  So I made some calls and was able to find a team in Plano for him to play on.  He will be on the Blue Jays and chose #34.  We took him this weekend to get all of his equipment and he is asking me several times a day when his first practice is and when his first real game is!  Can't wait to watch my little buddy play a sport he has loved since he was a baby.

Its so much fun to get to start exploring new things that our kids might love and be good at.  But above all we just hope our kids have fun doing these new activities.
