Homemade Play Dough

This afternoon, we had some fun making homemade play dough.  It was super easy and the kids loved it so I thought I would share the recipe!!  Hope you have as much fun as we did with this!

Play Dough
1 C. flour
1 C. water
1 tsp salt
1 tbsp vegetable oil
2 tsp cream of tartar
food coloring
glitter (optional)
medium sauce pan
large spoon

So that's everything you need.

To make it, all you do is add all the ingredients to the pan and stir them until the mixture is smooth and lump free.

Once its smooth heat it on MEDIUM heat.  Stir the entire time you are cooking it.  After a few minutes it will start to get lumpy.  Keep stirring!

It will eventually become a big glob of play dough.

Once its solid, take it off the heat and knead it with your hands.  Careful it will be pretty warm at first :D.

Once it cools, its ready for little hands to play with!

It made a bit of a mess in the kitchen, mostly because I let Maddox help me pour the ingredients in the pan and help stir but it was a quick clean up and he had a blast!!  It does smell a little weird but I've heard you can put a little bit of coconut extract in there to make it smell better.  I didn't have any so we didn't do that.  We may try it next time thought :D.

I am just storing it in zip lock bags. And it should stay nice and soft in there.

All 4 of us ended up sitting at the table for half an hour playing with our new play dough.  An easy, cheap, and fun activity to do with the kiddos!!
