No Sick Days for Momma...

I'm pretty sure I have come down with a case of mastitis...bummer!! I have a 101.1 temp and am feeling TERRIBLE!! It's looking like a trip to the doctor and some antibiotics are on the agenda for tomorrow. Say a little prayer that I get to feeling better QUICK because as many of you know mommies don't get to take sick days!!

Addison's Birth Story

Alright here it is...

Tuesday morning, May 31, we woke up around 6:45 am and I called the hospital to make sure they weren't too crowded and that we were still ok to come in for our scheduled induction. They said they were ready for us and to come on in. So we got ready, loaded up and headed to the hospital. We got to the hospital at around 7:30 am and got all checked in. Turns out we were the only ones in Labor and Delivery the whole day so it was really quiet around there.

They started my IV at around 8:30 and I saw my doctor. He checked my progress and said I was dilated to about a 1 before any meds. So they decided to start me on a medicine that is supposed to soften the cervix in hopes that it would jump start my labor without having to do any Pitocin. I started having regular contractions and by the time they checked me again at around noon I had progressed to 2-3 cm. I was getting a bit uncomfortable at this point so I decided to get things started on the epidural process. They started up my IV again and then the anesthesiologist came in and did my epidural. My doctor came in around 1:45 pm and broke my water. Right before this my nurse, Dawn, checked me again and said I was dilated to a 3. At 3:15 pm I had progressed to between a 3-4 and they decided to start me on a little bit of Pitocin to move things along. I started getting uncomfortable after they started the Pitocin so we sent everyone out of the room to wait in the waiting room. My nurse came and checked me again at around 4:45 pm and I had gone to a 7. Things were really starting to get painful so the anesthesiologist came back in and gave me several doses of medicine to help but nothing seemed to relive the pain. This is exactly the same thing that happened when I was in labor with Maddox. Things progressed really quickly from here. Dawn checked me again at about 5 and said "you're ready to have a baby!!" A great thing to hear when you are in pain and so done being pregnant and in labor. They called my doctor in and I pushed for about 25 minutes, they helped speed things along by using the vacuum suction because Addison's heart rate had dropped then then at 5:29 pm our sweet baby girl was born.

Addison Grace weighed in at 7 pounds 0.4 ounces and was 20 1/2 inches long. She has a full head of dark brown hair!! It is always such an amazing feeling to hear your baby cry for the first time!! She was perfectly healthy and we are so thankful for that!! It was a long day but definitely faster than Maddox's labor and delivery.

We spent the next day and a half in recovery and then headed home.  I don't want to jinx it but Addison is a dream baby!!  She is an amazing sleeper and is getting much better at nursing.  She is going 5-6 hour stretches at night which makes life so much easier on me since I can't nap whenever I want like I could with just one baby!!

Maddox is doing great with sister for the most part.  He loves to hold her, look at her and talk to her.  The main issue he has been having is that he doesn't like that I can't hold him whenever he wants like I used to.  It is also a little hard to make sure he is gentle with her.  Obviously a 2 year old doesn't quite understand how delicate a newborn is.  He is a good little helper though and I can tell really loves his baby sister.  I can't wait to watch them grow up together.

I still can't believe we have 2 children!! I am so thankful that God has chosen us to be Maddox and Addison's mommy and daddy!! We are so blessed to have 2 healthy kids and now that we have both of them I can't imagine life without them. I feel like being a mom is my calling in life. I have wanted to have children for as long as I can remember and I feel so incredibly bless that God has allowed me to have them. It has definitely been challenging going from one to two but I love both of my babies with all my heart and it is my greatest joy to be their mommy!! Thank you Lord for entrusting me with these precious gifts!!

Newborn Check-Up, Sick Buddy, & 1st Night at Home

This morning we loaded up and headed to the doctor for Miss Addison's newborn check-up and also ended up having Maddox seen because he has been running a fever for the last 3 days.

Everything was good with Addison. Her weight is down to 6 lbs 8 oz which is down 7% from her birth weight but anything from 2-10% is normal. She is a tiny bit jaundice but the nurse said that should clear up without us having to do much. We will go back on Monday just for a weight check and if the jaundice is worse we will deal with it then.

Maddox checked out just fine too. They said it is just a little virus that is giving him the fever. He hasn't had any other symptoms so hopefully this clears up quickly and the rest of us stay well!!

Our first night at home went relatively well. Addison had been sleeping ALL day long so I was prepared for a long night of her being up. She was wide awake from about 1 - 3 am but she wasn't fussy so that was nice. Maddox ended up waking up during the night at about 1:45 because he was feeling so crummy and was running a fever again. We finally got him back to sleep and at around 3 Addison fell asleep and slept until about 7!! Aside from Maddox waking up it was a fairly easy night!!

We are LOVING having Miss Addison home. She is such a little peanut!! I don't know if it is still just these early newborn days or what but she has been so laid back! Maddox really hasn't been too interested in here yet which is probably a good thing because with him being sick we aren't supposed to let him be in contact with her. I know eventually he will love his baby sister.

I know what you all really want is pictures so I will do my best to get some posted asap!!

Miss Addison Grace Packer

Addison Grace was born at 5:26 pm and weighs 7 lbs even, a whole pound and a half smaller than her brother was!!! I'm doing great and she is absolutely perfect!! More pics to come later!!

Progress

At a 7...pretty uncomfortable right now...hopefully she comes soon!!

Pitocin

I'm at between a 3 and a 4 right now. They just started a little Pitocin to help move things along!

Epidural Heaven!

I have now had my epidural put in and am feeling good! Dr. G came and broke my water about 15 minutes ago so hopefully that moves things along!! Dawn, my nurse said I was at about a 3 right before he broke my water! yay for progress!!

Progress

Were making progress!! Dilated to a 2-3!! They are either going to break my water soon or start a little bit of Pitocin soon!! But my contractions are consistent and intense enough that we might not need the Pitocin! I'm thinking it about time to get my epidural! Getting pretty uncomfortable!!

Go time!

We are all checked in at the hospital an ready to go! I have gotten my IV in, just saw my Dr. and they are about to start my meds! Hopefully, thing go quickly and smoothly! Above all, we just want baby girl to be healthy! I'll keep you all updated as things progress!!

Doctor's Appointment

I had my last pre-natal doctor's appointment this morning before we get induced on Tuesday!! Everything is still pretty much the same. My blood pressure was a tiny bit high at 139/81 but Dr. G wasn't concerned about it since it has been fine the rest of the time and because I didn't have any trouble with pre-ecclampsia during my 1st pregnancy. Addison's heart rate was 134. I still haven't dilated at all but I am 60% effaced. I am still measuring at 36 weeks but he said that is somewhat normal for girls without much body fat. Dr. G said my progress really had no impact on the induction so that is good to hear. I got all of our paperwork for when we go in and all we have to do now is call right before we go to make sure they aren't too busy that morning!!

Only 6 more days to go!!! Can't wait to meet baby girl!!
