Denver Botanic Gardens

Last week we decided to take the kids to do something fun.  The weather was supposed to be nice so we decided to go to the zoo.  Unfortunately, when we pulled up to park we realized that the entire city of Denver had the same idea too.  The lots were all full and there were people EVERYWHERE!  We decided to come up with a plan B.  We headed over the the Denver Botanic Gardens which wasn't too far from the Zoo.  There wasn't much in bloom at this time of year and both kids ended up falling and scraping up their knees but we still had fun.  Addy had on a really cute outfit (thanks Nana) and I got some cute pictures.  She was really sassy and kept cheesing it up every time I got my phone out to take a picture!  She is too funny.

Easter

We had a great Easter this year as a family!  The kids woke up to fun little easter baskets.  After a little playing and some breakfast we got ready for church.  I always enjoy coordinating our outfits and usually get lots of compliments on them.  We had an amazing worship service at church celebrating our risen Savior and then enjoyed a huge potluck after with several families who, like us, don't have any family living close by.  We had a big egg hunt on the play ground and the kids had a blast!!  It was a fun day and are so blessed by our "extended" family at LC!

Quilting

When we found out we were going to be getting a nephew I decided for a baby gift I wanted to try and make him a quilt.  I have to be honest I have not done much sewing so I really had no idea where to start.  I pretty much just winged the entire thing.  I went to JoAnn's and picked out some super cute fabric then procrastinated a while while I mustered up the courage to start cutting it all up.

 I started by cutting the solid colors into 10 X 10 inch squares.

 I embroidered his name on the middle square.

 Then I sewed al the squares together.

 For the outer border I cut strips out of the cute city scape fabric.

 I sewed them around the outside of the squares.

 Then for the back I used a grey minky fabric.  I wanted it to be a little padded so I used some quilting padding or whatever its called, lol.  I'm obviously not an expert at this whole quilting thing.  I used an adhesive spray to keep it in place then "quilted" around the outer area of the squares to hold it all together.  I used the excess of the backing as the binding around the whole thing.  I just folded it over and sewed it up.

It is by no means perfect but I hope Luke enjoys it and knows it was made with lots of love by his Aunt Holly!!

Baby Cousin Luke

We were so excited to welcome our precious nephew/cousin Luke Stephen into our family on March 21!!  I am so glad we were able to be in Texas to meet him right after his birth.  He is such a sweet baby and I CAN'T wait to watch Maddox, Addy and him grow up together!!  The kids were so sweet when we went to meet him.  Addy kept saying "baby" and wanted to look at him and was so gentle.  Maddox wanted to hold him and did such a great job.  We were sad Uncle Collin wasn't able to be there to meet him with us but we are looking forward to a trip with all 4 of us the second of May!  We can't wait to get more snuggles with sweet Luke then!!
